March Notes 2021

I have that feeling of both excitement and anxiety. I guess this is what comes in spring. If you have a garden. I managed to set up my germination box and get my peppers started where they sit in front of the window, all cheerful, green and spindly. Now I need to get out and plant some lettuce, parsley, arugula and snap peas before it’s the middle of April and I’m kicking myself because I didn’t plant them earlier. But with all my education on bees and things, I don’t want to disturb anyone whose still hibernating.

The last few days have been blindingly bright. Especially with no leaves on the trees yet. The birds are getting excited but only the grackles seem to be migratory newcomers. Unless robins are migratory. I suppose they are in a way. I’ve seen some bugs out and about. Some milkweed bugs, a spider, flies, cabbage white butterflies and midges.

Our squirrel friends seem to have lost interest in our offerings of peanuts. They still come around just not as much. I see them from time to time flying around in the trees.

The buds on the elm are getting big but still no feasting going on yet. So, I suppose I’m waiting. And saying goodbye to winter. Not much of a winter, but winter non the less.

Last week we had a warm but cloudy day. Kind of surreal. The pictures do not capture the sounds of the birds which was almost deafening.
